BIENVENUE DANS LE NANOMONDE

Synopsis

With the first episode, we move from the micro-world of the 20th century to the nano-world of the 21st century. We discover how, by abandoning the traditional method of manufacturing objects from blocks of raw material, the idea of assembling objects atom by atom was born. It all began with a microscope that could touch atoms... If we could touch them, why not push and assemble them? Then chance came into play with the first structures: nanotubes... Structures with astonishing properties, because at that scale, matter behaves differently. As the first applications emerged, industrial and economic stakes became clear, prompting Europe, the USA, and Asia to launch an impressive effort to master this 21st-century technoscience. We will be guided by the first pioneers and the most advanced researchers, several of whom have since been awarded Nobel prizes. With them, we will explore the ultimate logic of nanotechnologies, which theoretically will allow us to assemble any object from atoms!
